Shortcuts. Everyone wants a shortcut. If you're going across town, the desire to get there faster makes you want to find and take the back roads. Usually, those shortcuts means more red lights and stop signs than the tried and true path. Getting into shape is no different, especially today. Many people are searching for the shortcut to getting the hard body they desire. As a result, people are doing the dumbest things in an effort to get fit quick. They hear all the marketing lies about products and workouts that get you in unbelievable shape fast and they, unfortunately, believe the claims.
The truth is, there is no magic pill. There is no magic shake. And there is no magic workout that will produce an awesome body in a short period of time. Thankfully though, there is a tried and true system that works every single time if you are simply willing to follow directions. Here are some facts and methods that are 100% true:
- After an initial period of "water weight loss" from eating a clean diet, you cannot lose more than 1.5 to 2lbs per week of body fat without also losing valuable muscle weight. So if you are into your diet more than two weeks and you are still losing more than a couple of pounds per week, your diet is wrong!
- Nothing speeds the metabolism better or faster than resistance training. Cardio is a distant second in this category. To maximize your results, do resistance training at least 3 days per week. You will not have a hard body if all you do is cardiovascular training.
- Your body will only respond according to how you are feeding it. Consume complete proteins (lean meats) and complex carbohydrates several times per day. Don't be fooled into thinking that you should eliminate all carbs. This is foolish move and it will hinder your results. Demonstrate portion control, don't eliminate complex carbs. Simple carbs should be eliminated completely if at all possible.
- If you are doing boot camp or cross fit type workouts, always use perfect form on exercises. Using improper form will prohibit proper muscular development and will cause injury. Form before weight should always be the rule and not the exception.
