No love there: Son of 'Barney & Friends' creator arrested for attempted murder

It's not as bad as the scandal over a then current, but now former Elmo voice having sexual relationships with minors, but it still seemingly destroys a childhood icon. In a Thursday report, "Barney & Friends" fans found out about the arrest of the son of the woman who created the show.

That's not the worst part. It wasn't for unpaid parking tickets or even sex with a minor. 27-year-old Patrick Leach allegedly attempted to murder a 49-year-old man in Malibu, Calif.

Patrick Leach is the son of Barney creator Sheryl Leach. He was arrested in Agoura Hills, Calif. for allegedly shooting a man in the chest on Jan. 9.

While police have not yet ascertained a motive, they say they have recovered evidence that conncts Leach to the shooting. The victim, Eric Shanks, was treated at UCLA Medical Center and is expected to survive.

What brought on the incident? According to the report, it was a trespass incident. The two are neighbors, so it sounds like Leach reacted to Shanks crossing his property line.

Leach was arrested without incident. He was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff ’s Station, and then left on the day of the incident after $1 million in bail was posted.

As Barney himself would say, "I love you; you love me; we're a happy family." In this case, not so much.
