Jennifer Lopez is a single woman once again. According to a report by Us Weekly on Friday, the “I Luh Ya Papi” singer and her boyfriend of two and a half years have called it quits. Despite rumors surrounding Smart’s sexuality and cheating ways, the breakup is said to be mutual.

Apparently distance and Smart’s pursuit of his own career were factors in the breakup. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly, “It has actually been an amicable process that started a few months ago. It wasn’t an easy decision, but they decided to stay friends…Their relationship couldn’t work with the distance. He started trying to establish his own life and career, and she is so focused on hers, and they just couldn’t be all about each other anymore.”

The “American Idol” judge has been busy with the singing competition and the release of her new album over the last few months. The 44-year-old Lopez and the much younger Smart were first linked together as a couple back in November 2011. Lopez gushed about her younger lover and seemed on the path of making him her fourth husband. She described Smart as her best friend who gave her “endless love and support.”

The breakup coincidentally comes after rumors have surfaced about Smart’s sexuality after several tabloids reported that the choreographer cheated on Lopez with a transgender model he reportedly met online. In fact, Joshua Lee Ayers, a dancer who appeared in the dance flick “Step Up 3D” with Smart, offered his opinions on the rumors. He told Radar Online, “I don’t put nothing past the kid. He’s an opportunist. It’s all gonna come out eventually.”

Ayers accused Smart of being gay back in 2012, but that claim was put to rest by a rep of the dancer who claimed Ayers was just jealous and envious. But Ayers has stuck to his claims and called Smart “gay for opportunity” and “gay for the spotlight.” Despite the recent rumors, the breakup is said to have nothing to do with what has been out there circulating around the tabloids. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly that Lopez believes Smart’s denial of the rumors.

Lopez has been married to Marc Anthony, Cris Judd, Ojani Noa and was engaged to Ben Affleck. Her first publicized romance was with hip-hop mogul Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. It is pretty safe to assume that the singer-actress won’t be single for long and will have no problem getting back on her feet.
