There's a better chance now that a Big 12 bobblehead giveaway might be coming relatively soon to an Oklahoma Memorial Stadium near you.
The Pac-10 stands ready to invite Oklahoma and five other Big 12 schools--insert Baylor, take out Colorado if Texas politicians have their way--to form a giant conference that will try to earn more money than the Catholic Church and more trophies than a beauty queen.
This is no longer a rumor.
The Big 12--picture a whole bunch of older white males whose reactionary feathers have been ruffled way past their comfort levels--is not going down without a fight. That internal battle now includes a line drawn in the sand. Nebraska and Missouri have been given a deadline to tell the Big 12 if they want to stay in or get out. "Ultimatum" is a better word. The deadline is 5 p.m. this Friday. It was set by Big 12 presidents. Other reports state the Big 12 is giving itself two weeks to expand, remain intact, or fold.
"I've talked to the Pac-10," said an anonymous Big 12 school administrator, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "There is an invitation. When it comes, it'll come fast."
Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott, in a presentation to athletic directors at meetings in San Francisco, laid out several scenarios Friday, one of which would include adding six Big 12 universities.
Meanwhile, Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe is "comfortable" the league will remain intact. He shared that the league is seeking to keep its brand loyalty while increasing its coffers so they match, or surpass, what other leagues are making. But Beebe would not discuss precisely how the league plans to accomplish a revenue increase except that it is tied to TV money.
Big 12 member schools reportedly make between $7-10 million annually from TV deals, whereas, last season, Big 10 schools each received around $22 million from the conference because of a new Big 10 cable network.
"We have had analysis and projections that look like we're going to be every bit as well-compensated in the future," Beebe said.

Good job, Bryan. Lot of good info here..thanks.
Why does it matter that Big 12 officials are white?
I think this might make better games; I just hope we'll be able to keep all of our rivials because we've had them forever.
Uh, Source?
How are you certain about OK and not the rest? Especially is Scott is currently meeting with the AD's preseidents and Chancellors of the Pac-10-?
"a whole bunch of older white males"
Pathetic that you would write this. Absolutely pathetic.
Thanks for contributing to racism. Keep that race issue going in those areas that its not even a problem.
It's not rasist it's the truth a bunch of white people are white, black people are black and so on. Now spick and pecker wood is rasist.
Hmmm... well, I would hate to see the Big 12 fold, but I have become a bit tired of playing all of the South teams every year. A bigger conference would allow for more variety in the games.
white males? Imagine if he had said black males, he would of been fired. Stupid ignorant writers just like to hear themselves talk, or is this case read. Fool.
Ryker--
FYI, 23 of the 24 Big 12 presidents and athletic directors are white males. (The only non-white is Kansas' new president, a 66-year old black female.)
One of the presidents is under 60 (Kirk Schulz of Kansas State). Half of the athletic directors are 60 or over.
Got something to say?
