No kiss inside church for William and Kate (photos)

These photos of William and Kate's kiss and other Royal Wedding photos demonstrate that there is no kissing allowed at the Westminster Abbey Altar.

Unlike the typical United States church wedding -- with its pivotal and highlighted "You may kiss the bride" moment that everyone waits for at the altar -- the edicts and protocol of the Church of England forbids such behavior as kissing in such a revered and hallowed locale as Westminster Abbey.

For their first public kiss, William and Kate smooched for photographers and the crowd and themselves* on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the Royal Wedding.

The wedding vows bespoke of a typically reverent, sober and old-worldly type of Christian ceremony, wherein the two were blessed and prayed over with words that spoke of Jesus' first public miracle -- fittingly so at a wedding in Cana wherein Christ turned water into wine.

They ended with a benediction that Christians across the Pond alike use in our ceremonies: "What has been joined by God, let no man put asunder."
