Formosa, Goias, Brazil: In yet another case of a mother teaching her child about heartless cruelty to an animal, recently a video went viral throughout the advocacy community showing that very thing.
The video graphically depicts a Camila Correa, a nurse who is married to a Brazilian doctor, brutally torturing a tiny 4-month-old Yorkshire terrier puppy. Correa repeatedly kicks him, slams him to the floor and hits him with a bucket, which she later placed over him. He desperately tries to escape from the relentless attacks, but couldn't move his shattered body. All of this while Correa's 1-1/2-year-old daughter watched. She claimed it was just a "spanking", and she had no idea of the uproar it would cause. (Source.)
Correa claimed she did not remember how the puppy ended up out in the courtyard of the complex, where he was found by Military Police and the Fire Department. He apparently died two days later from his injuries.
The video of this savage attack on the tiny puppy is provided here. Be warned that it is graphic and heartbreaking to watch. The 1-1/2-year-old daughter of this human monster is watching the entire thing unfold, as the tiny puppy struggles to move his broken body away from the relentless attack.
It was hoped that the woman would receive the maximum sentence for this horror, which was a mere 2 years. But as so often happens in cases involving animals, it has been reported she walked away with no jail time and nothing more than a $3000 fine and community service.
Three petitions have been started, asking the Brazilian government to increase the laws involving animal abuse, neglect and cruelty, and then actually impose those sentences on the perpetrators. The petitions are from PETA (which is a letter written in Portuguese for advocates to sign), Change.org and Care2, which can be signed by anyone anywhere. The links for all 3 are provided below.
If ever there was a time for advocates to raise their voices to be heard, it's now. This precious, innocent little puppy suffered so severely at the hands of a human monster as a child watched the nightmare unfold. Something this horrible should have been punished in a way to fit that despicable crime. Sadly, it appears that because of the common mindset that he was "just an animal", she walks free today, never having felt even the slightest sting as punishment for this horrendous crime.
There was no escape for this tiny puppy from the brutal attack that broke his little body and cost him his life. He had no voice with which to stop the pain being inflicted upon him over and over again by a human monster.
This puppy and the child who had to witness it all were betrayed by both the human who should have been their guardian and then the legal system that should have brought him justice for his brutal death.
It's time now for advocates to be that voice for him, so his death was not in vain, but rather was the cornerstone for the changes in laws so desperately needed for all animals in that country.
