Hello readers we are 11 weeks into the New Year and summer is around the corner what are you doing about your 2014 goals. Truthfully, many of us set out to be healthier and fitter for 2014. My column is dedicated to people over 40 years old. Therefore, our journey is a little more difficult because when you reach forty for some reason most of our bodies really starts to break down which makes our journey a little harder. We all can agree our stomachs and waistlines are growing.

In addition, people over 40 years in age are strapped for energy, time and sleep which all weigh on our health. So let us devote ourselves to doing our part to reduce stress and fat around the heart, waist and stomach. We want to challenge you to be hardcore about your health. Make a doctor appointment, get your blood work done and most of all try to get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Determine if you are overweight and under nourished. Promise to stop dieting forever and make healthy eating a lifestyle. This means cut carbohydrates and introduce more water, fruits and lean meat into your life. We already know you are over worked with the stress of family, friends and parents starting to age and die. Stop right now and take a deep breath it is OK and know we all understand!

The number one rule for people over 40 is to stop beating yourself up; the anxiety from trying to be perfect is ridiculous because human beings are not perfect. Yes would of, could of and should of are all lies. Remember you could have turned left and gotten yourself killed. So decide to be happy with who you are and where you are right this moment. I ask you stop whatever you are doing this moment and give yourself a big hug.

Please do not lose momentum I go to the gym all year round but in December and January you cannot get a class or a machine for your workout. Now eleven weeks into the New Year the gym crowd has drastically decreased. So pretend this is December 31st and revitalize your spirit to press forward. Do not get left off your to-do list. Stop the stress eating by making wiser eating choices snack on vegetables. End the tug of war and press through all the excuses and leap into health, wellness and fitness!
