As the saying goes…"You just can't make this stuff up". We have an out-of-control government that has taken us to the brink of insolvency as a nation with the current debt just crossing the $17 trillion mark, and the debt (including unfunded mandates for long-term pension and other obligations) somewhere around $90 trillion. What we are facing is biggest and purest outright power grab by government to takeover one-sixth of the U.S. economy (the health care industry); and we have a bunch of power-hungry elitists in Washington looking down their noses telling the citizenry that we are just the ignorant masses, but not to worry, they will take care of us…All this with the mainstream media acting as a junior high school cheer-leading squad with no pretense of journalism.
The healthcare takeover has nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing to do with HEALTH CARE. Part of the Marxist doctrine is to control healthcare and thereby you control the very vitality and spirit of the people and the economy. Pure and simple…it is all about POWER, and typical of all government departments, programs, and projects, as pointed out in my last article, is being handled and implemented with all the skill, finesse, and attention to detail, as the Keystone Cops under the leadership and direction of Homer Simpson.
To Veterans of all eras, we need no introduction to the government's ability "behind the wheel"; after all, it's the government who gave us the Veteran's Administration, and any Veteran can spend hours talking about the problems they have faced in dealing with the VA. I'm not saying that those working in the VA system are worthless, but to anyone familiar with the Veterans Administration can see the handwriting on the wall as to where Obamacare (aka the Affordable Healthcare Act) is taking the country. Those working in The System, for the most part, are seemingly servants of the government and not the Veteran. They are hamstrung by the bureaucracy and often are unable to right the policies they see that are wasteful and inefficient.
Before I get accused of "slam-dunking" the VA, let's look at just one instance of the many problems that always seem to permeate government at all levels before moving on to the purpose of my latest rant… A report, released by the VA's independent watchdog, estimated that the agency spent about $6.1 million on two conferences in 2011, including $762,000 that was identified as unauthorized or unnecessary. Among the wasteful expenses: $97,906 worth of promotional gifts for the federal workers attending the training sessions; $154,000 for contractor travel; $16,500 to produce daily "Happy Face" videos of those in attendance; and nearly $2,300 for beverages, such as soda and juice, consumed by conference officials and speakers.
"Overall, VA's processes and the oversight were too weak, ineffective and, in some instances, nonexistent to ensure that conference costs identified were accurate, appropriate, necessary and reasonably priced," the report concluded. "Accountability and controls were inadequate to ensure effective management and reporting of the dollars spent. Sounds like all the other touchy-feely, good-times rock and roll conferences of other government departments.
The scary part of all the government waste, fraud, and abuse that can be easily found with just a minimum of effort is that it isn't just with the current occupiers of those fat cushy chairs in Washington DC. I am positive that it can be traced back to the very first group of bureaucrats that were hired. ACCOUNTABILITY is just another word in the approximately 1,013,913 words in the English language. To those in government at the federal level, a-c-c-o-u-n-t-a -b-i-l-i-t-y has no meaning and seems to be almost hereditary or genetic to government employees.
And no matter if you are Republican, Democrat, Independent, voter, non-voter, if you have a pulse you can see a clear picture of government in general. According to an annual Gallup Poll, a survey of the public-at-random concludes the federal government wastes 51 cents on every dollar it spends. This public estimation has grown significantly since the poll in 1986 pegged the waste at a "paltry" 38 cents on every dollar spent. This means Americans believe that federal spending is wasting more than what they wisely spend! The problem is that if you are on the receiving end of government largess, you know…free handouts, unearned benefits (renamed as "entitlements"), and waste, you simply look the other way. Girl-Man
Okay…Now that we have reached the point that our citizens can finally agree on one thing... that waste in government is REAL, and that the waste is more prevent than the good that government spending is supposed to provide. Let's look at the latest insult to the public in general and the Marine Corps Veterans in particular:
In case you were asleep at the switch, to coin an old phrase, the latest waste the government was reportedly floating by the public is the announcement that the Department of Defense/The Marine Corps was looking into creating a unisex cover (also known as a "hat" by those not familiar with Marine Corps tradition). The scuttlebutt was that President Obama was behind the scheme. I am sure behind the closed doors in Washington (The Pentagon to the White House)…remember this Administration promised to be the "most transparent in history…which has turned out to be as clear and transparent as mud, this "trial balloon" was to test the reaction of how this would set with the steep traditions of The Corps and those of use still not killed off by Agent Orange or Uranium Oxide.
This story went viral is less than a day, and of course the reaction by most of us was that Washington and the Pentagon must be three French fries short of a Happy Meal®. So adamant was the reaction to get a horse, a rope, and find a tree where we could hang the bastards, that according to Stars and Stripes and almost without skipping a beat, the Marine Corps hastily issued its statement and followed up via email:
The Marine Corps Uniform Board will use the surveys to formulate a recommendation, though popularity isn’t the only consideration -- as evidenced by the strong negative reaction to the recent decision to keep camouflage utility sleeves rolled down all year. Commandant Gen. James Amos must approve any uniform board recommendation before it takes effect.
In an email, Marine Corps officials said there is no truth to reports that President Obama is behind the potential change… “The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” according to the Marine Corps statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business. … The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.”
Does any red-blooded Marine Corps Veteran, or for that matter, any member or Veteran of the other service branches believe that? In short that word track quickly became…"Oh, we were just kidding, guys. The new cover was only for the ladies because their cover supplier went out of business". Right, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you!
With the country embroiled in a real battle over the Marxist direction in which the country is headed, and the effort of the government to steal the minds and spirits, of the uninformed, low-information citizens, this cannot be seen as anything other than another pipe-dream of those safely sequestered inside the Beltway who can't even get a handle on governing the country. According to MSN.com, a senior Marine Corps source told the New York Post, "We don't even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the Department of Defense is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women's hats! The Marines deserve better. It makes them look ridiculous."
So, whether it is true or not, and it appears those currently running the fastest from the scene of this latest political "accident", I am curious why we have photographs of Marines in those ridiculous "hats"…sorry guys, I just can't get around to call them "covers". The Marine Corps isn't the French Foreign Legion, and I don't believe a Marine alive wants to see the military anymore feminized (sorry ladies, that's my word for the castration of our beloved Corps) than the latest 20-year battle to convert our military into just another politically correct, "all inclusive", touchy-feely, social experiment the Liberal/Progressives want to shove down the throats of the American Citizen!
If you see things differently, that's why we have spent so much American blood to give you the right to disagree, but I wouldn't be to adamant around one of my fellow Marines; They may not be as nice as me.
