The bold leadership seems to be listening to the people who elected them as a version of legislation titled "no budget, no pay" passed in the House of Representatives and now heads to the Senate.
Nevadan's who help elected Dean Heller to the Senate are looking for the same results from this governmental body lead by Harry Reid, another Silver State resident. This will not be an easy task for Senator Heller as he sent out an email stating "When I first introduced No Budget, No Pay in June of 2011, many thought it had only a long shot at passing because Washington was so gridlocked. The Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate even called No Budget, No Pay ridiculous."
It has been four long years since the Senate has passed a budget of any kind and has voted on the presidents budget with not one vote in the yea column. As an elected official it is written in our laws that a budget must be passed each year after being reviewed using what is now the CBO and Congressional Committee processes.
We hear a lot these days about continuing resolutions to avoid the "fiscal cliff". In 1974 under President Nixon the "Congressional Budget Act" became law under the premise our elected representatives would use the act to help reduce the deficit, not enhance it.
President Clinton and President Bush used it to reduce deficits as it was intended. However over the years as more and more pork barrel spending and bribes were put into legislation to get enough votes our leaders have failed us, our country and our Constitution by offering "Continuing Resolutions" in place of a real budget.
It is time we hold our elected officials accountable when they are spending your money each month without any restraints. Our national debt continues to increase (currently at 16.49 trillion dollars) at an astonishing rate of approximately twelve thousand dollars a second.
To put that in perspective one in five families in Washington D.C. live below the poverty levels established by our leaders. For a single individual that level is $17,900, our country spends more in two seconds then these individuals make in a year. If you are one of the families making the median yearly income, the government spends that amount in just 5 seconds.
We must stop the insanity pervasive in the Halls of Congress. Our message to Congress is simple, "quit spending what you don't have." Our nation can not continue down this path and remain the shining light and strength of the World with prosperity at every corner for all who are willing to work for it.
We are a nation unlike any other, let's keep it that way.
