The No. 5 Florida Gators got upset by the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday night (Feb. 19). Missouri pulled off the upset at home, beating the SEC leader 63-60 in front of some very excited fans.
Winning this game was not only important for the SEC standings, but it should also lead to Missouri getting ranked again in the Week 17 college basketball polls. It was due to a strong second half where the Tigers out-scored the Gators 37-31 that this game ended up in the win column.
Michigan State Almost Upsets Indiana
Leading the way for Missouri was Laurence Bowers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Phil Pressey chipped in 7 points, 10 assists, and 3 steals as well. It was defense that proved to be the difference, though, as Missouri held the Gators to just 40.7 percent shooting from the field.
Coming into this game, Florida had a great chance to move up in the polls after No. 4 Michigan State lost to No. 1 Indiana, but that simply is not in the cards at the moments. The loss drops the Gators to 21-4 overall and 11-2 in SEC play. As for the Missouri Tigers, they are now 19-7 overall and 8-5 in the SEC standings.
With No. 5 Florida getting upset and No. 4 Michigan State falling, the top three teams can breathe a little easier. It might also lead to more support for No. 2 Miami and No. 3 Gonzaga as they begin to wrap up their own conference schedules.
