No. 30 Texas Aggies upset by Houston Cougars, 7-6 (Photos)

The Houston Cougars came into Minute Maid to face Texas A&M in the first game for both teams in day one action of the Houston Astros Foundation College Classic.

Bolstered by a five-run fifth inning, the Cougars upset the # 30 Texas Aggies by the score of 7-6 at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

Daniel Smith, pitching 1.2 innings in relief got the win while Texas A&M’s starter, Kyle Martin was credited with the loss.

The Aggies jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom if the first inning; adding single runs in the fourth and fifth inning.

They also scored a single run in the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the Cougars’ fifth inning onslaught.

Caleb Barker was two-for-four for the Cougars, scoring two runs, while Josh Vidales tallied one run off two hits with one RBI.

Chase Wellbrock saw four innings of work for Houston to close out the game.

He gave up five hits and a single run while striking out five.

The Cougars will next face Baylor on day two of the tournament with a scheduled 3:30 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
