The Warhawks were coming off of last weeks victory over Wake Forest, the first time Louisiana-Monroe had defeated an ACC school, but the Bears proved too much as Baylor quickly rattled off a 35-0 first quarter lead.
Baylor's first drive lasted just 21 seconds as junior quarterback Bryce Petty connected with junior Antwan Goodley for a 63-yard touchdown on the Bears' third play from scrimmage.
While the offense was able to put up gaudy numbers, the real story of the first quarter might have been the Baylor defense. The Bears forced three separate turnovers on downs in the red zone and a punt in the first quarter alone. Additionally, senior cornerback Joe Williams and sophomore safety Terrell Burt each had a pick six in the opening quarter.
Baylor continued to roll, taking a 49-7 lead into halftime and then opened the second half with a 75-yard run by junior running back Lache Seastrunk for a touchdown.
The Bears started sitting the starters early in the third quarter, allowing redshirt freshman Seth Russell to get significant game experience, including the Bears' final score, which came on a 65-yard reception by junior Levi Norwood.
The Bears' 70 points tied the school record set two weeks ago against Buffalo, and Baylor also tied the school record of 781 yards of total offense.
Petty finished the day completing 18 out of 27 passes for 351 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Petty also had five carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. Russell completing seven out of nine passes for 119 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Seastrunk led the Bears' ground attack with 156 yards on 10 carries with one score while freshman Shock Linwood added 57 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Baylor had nine receivers with a reception in the game, and four different players caught touchdown passes. Goodley led all receivers with 156 yards on five catches and had two scores while senior Tevin Reese had 123 yards on six catches and a touchdown.
The Bears forced four turnovers, including three interceptions and a fumble on a kickoff return. The turnovers led to 21 of the Bears' points.
The Warhawks' senior quarterback Kolton Browning finished the day completing 17 out of 41 passes for 219 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. ULM rushers combined for 75 yards on 35 carries.
Baylor's next game will be against West Virginia on Oct. 5 following a bye next week. ULM will face Tulane next week at 7 p.m. (ET) on Sept. 28.
