No. 2 Miami upset: Miami Hurricanes lose to Wake Forest in ACC play

The No. 2 Miami Hurricanes just got upset by Wake Forest in ACC play. The Miami upset is just the latest college basketball surprise that this season has held and it likely won't be the last one either. The Saturday game (Feb. 23), wasn't even really close, as the Demon Deacons raced out to a 42-29 lead by halftime in front of an excited home crowd.

The 80-65 loss drops Miami to 22-4 overall and gave the Hurricanes their first ACC loss of the season. This could cost the team that No. 2 ranking, especially with the No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs playing really good basketball lately. As for Wake Forest, this will probably be the best win that the team has this season unless they can pull a few upsets in the 2013 ACC Tournament.

Leading the way for Wake Forest was C.J. Harris with 23 points. He went 5-for-5 from three-point range and hit some really big shots for the team. Codi Miller-McIntyre chipped in 15 points and Devin Thomas had 10 more to help lead the team to just its twelfth win of the season. Four players from Miami scored in double-figures, but the team only shot 39.1 percent from the field to fall in this one.

Losing this game will make decisions even tougher for voters when the Week 17 college basketball rankings come out. That No. 2 Miami got upset again likely means that the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers will net more first place votes as well. Expect the No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs to jump to No. 2 in both the Week 17 AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls as well.
