The No. 10 Baylor Bears bounced back from back-to-back losses and defeated the Iowa State Cyclones, 79-64.
Following weak performances against Kansas and Missouri in the previous week, Baylor's star and preseason Big 12 player of the year Perry Jones III helped lift the team over a dangerous Cyclones team that had defeated Kansas earlier this season. Before the game, both teams were tied for third place in the Big 12 with an 8-4 record.
Over the last two games Jones averaged 4.5 points per game and was shooting 15 percent. Tonight he led the Bears with 18 points and shot 8 of 13 from the floor.
Baylor went on a quick seven point run in the first two minutes of play and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. Baylor took a 10-point lead into halftime and sustained their lead throughout the second half. Iowa State was able to cut the deficit down to five points a couple times, but each time Baylor countered with a run.
The Bears had four players with double digit points. To accompany his 18 points, Jones III had seven rebounds and two assists. Point guard Pierre Jackson recorded nine assists, eight points and a steal. Anthony Jones, who started all of Baylor's games last year, came off the bench to contribute 12 points and five boards. Freshman Quincy Miller added 16 points and senior Quincy Acy added 11 points with several exciting dunks throughout the game.
The Cyclones' star sophomore transfer Royce White had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists but also turned the ball over seven times. Forward Melvin Ejim led Iowa State with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal.
The Bears will travel to Ames, Iowa in the last regular game of the season for a rematch on March 3. Both teams still have to play Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Kansas State. Iowa State still has to face Missouri and Baylor has to play Texas.
