No. 1 deadbeat parent: Deadbeat parent owes $1.2 million in child support

No. 1 deadbeat parent Robert Sand reportedly owes $1.2 million in child support. Sand was dubbed the No. 1 deadbeat parent in the United States according to a report from Thursday (Feb. 21). The debt was created from three kids and two failed marriages, along with interest and penalties that have been tacked on to the unpaid support.

Now Sand is going to suffer some pretty severe punishment. He pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Central Islip on Long Island to two counts of failing to pay child support. Now he faces up to four years in prison when the judge hands down a sentence in May and a lot of the circumstances in this case could work against him.

According to a plea agreement that Sand's lawyers worked out for him, he is required to make full restitution to the two families that he owes the money to. As for the two mothers, they would prefer he stay out of prison and pay the debt. That does make the most sense, because if he is put in prison, those three kids still aren't going to see any of the child support that he hasn't paid.

Being the No. 1 deadbeat parent in the US is certainly not a title that anyone would want, but not having paid child support since at least 2002 comes with consequences. The reason Robert Sand was able to evade being arrested for so long was that he reportedly fled to Florida and then to Thailand before returning late last year. Now the New York man is being forced to face the music.
