NME Awards 2013: One Direction gets nod for Worst Band; Harry Styles for Villain

The nominations for the 2013 NME Awards were announced on January 22. And for the second year in a row, One Direction has been nominated for Worst Band. Meanwhile, One Direction's Harry Styles is nominated for Villain of the Year. The 2013 NME Awards ceremony will be held February 27 at The Troxy in London.

NME is a magazine that primarily covers rock music. The NME Awards are voted on by the public at NME's website. Many pop artists are looked down on by NME writers and readers, who consider a lot of pop music to be not good enough for their tastes.

One Direction had the dubious honor of winning the Worst Band prize at the NME Awards in 2012. The group obviously did not attend the ceremony.

The other Worst Band nominees for the 2013 NME Awards are Muse, Mumford & Sons, Alt-J, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran. (Since when are solo artists Bieber and Sheeran considered a band?)

The other Villain of the Year nominees for the 2013 NME Awards are David Cameron, Skrillex, Psy, Fred Macpherson and Azealia Banks.

(A complete list of the nominees can be found at the NME website.)

While NME Awards may have a lot of disdain for One Direction, the group has been honored at the Brit Awards (a more important awards show): In 2012, One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" won the Brit Award for Best British Single. In 2013, One Direction is nominated for two Brit Awards: Best British Band and Best Brits Global Success. One Direction is also among the performers at the 2013 Brit Awards, which will take place at the O2 Arena in London on February 20.

One Direction, which was came in third place "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, has won many prizes at other awards shows, including the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, 2012 Teen Choice Awards, 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, 2012 Bambi Awards and 2013 People's Choice Awards.
