Rather than streaming lacrosse games on livestream.com like the past couple of seasons, the National Lacrosse League instead decided to broadcast games live on YouTube this year. The NLL Network has been renamed to The Lacrosse Network (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLacrosseNetwork) and the first game of the 2013 season, the Rochester Knighthawks versus the Washington Stealth, ended up being a huge success.
According a recent tweet by NLL VP of Communications Doug Fritts (@NLLPR), there were 10,797 unique visitors who tuned in to watch Saturday night's game. This is a new record for NLL online broadcasts. There were times when the stream reached over 1,800 concurrent viewers.
The stream itself was crisp and smooth. Even on high definition (720p) quality, there was no lag. The Lacrosse Network looks like a step in the right direction for the National Lacrosse League. Not only will they be streaming all of this season's games live on their YouTube channel, but there are also tons of other lacrosse-related videos released daily such as news, highlights, and game advice.
