Because the National Lacrosse League features only nine teams, the wealth of talent on each team is impressive and balanced throughout the league. No day in the year may have proved this point better than January 19 when all three NLL games finished with a differential of only one goal.
- Philadelphia Wings 8 @ Toronto Rock 7
- Buffalo Bandits 14 @ Rochester Knighthawks 13
- Colorado Mammoth 13 @ Calgary Roughnecks 12
Josh Sanderson of the Toronto Rock opened week three scoring with a goal less than three minutes into their matchup with the Philadelphia Wings. However, it was the goaltenders who would take center stage in Toronto as Nick Rose and Brandon Miller combined to stop 101 shots on goal. The game was tightly contested throughout, but Philadelphia would mount a 5-goal fourth quarter to come out on top.
With YouTube's feed in Rochester experiences technical difficulties, many fans missed out on this nail-biter of a game. Both the Bandits and Knighthawks feature highly prolific scoring offenses which they put on display on Saturday. Buffalo's new face Shawn Williams (2g, 6a) led all scorers in the game to lead his Bandits to victory. Rochester's Casey Powell saw action for the first time this season, scoring 2 goals and 4 assists.
In a game which seemed to be over midway through the final quarter when the Calgary Roughnecks led 12-8, the Colorado Mammoth scored 4 straight goals in less than 5 minutes to bring the score even at 12 apiece. The Mammoth's momentum carried into overtime when Sean Pollock picked up a rebound and put it in behind a diving Mike Poulin. John Grant Jr, never shy to let the shots fly, scored a game-high 6 goals on 26 shots.
Week three is not finished yet. The Edmonton Rush travel to Everett, WA to take on the Stealth on Sunday, January 20. The game can be seen live at 6:00 ET on The Lacrosse Network on YourTube.
