NJDocs student film series tonight on NJTV

New cooperative effort between NJ universities and NJTV that will showcase school film projects to start tonight.

NJTV, New Jersey's new public television network, will premiere a new monthly film series tonight called NJDocs, featuring documentaries produced primarily by New Jersey's college and university students.

The network is calling for submissions from the state's collegiate filmmakers through their schools for inclusion in the series, which starts tonight, February 6th at 10pm ET on NJTV  and will feature a new documentary film on NJTV in the same timeslot on the first Monday night of each month.

NJDocs is hosted by acclaimed film festival programmer Thom Powers, who serves as Director of the Montclair Film Festival and documentary programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, among others.

"NJDocs is fulfilling one of NJTV's missions- to engage and showcase local talent," said John Servidio, General Manager of NJTV.  "What better place to start than the state's colleges and universities, where aspiring filmmakers are hard at work and looking for exposure.  It's mutually gratifying."

NJDocs debuts tonight with Atlantic Crossing, a 60-minute documentary from Rutgers University filmmakers about researchers and students voyaging across the Atlantic Ocean in the first robotic glider. After the broadcast, this film and others in the series will be posted online at www.njtvonline.org/docs.

Here is how to participate:  New Jersey's colleges and universities need to recommend their students' best works for broadcast, or have individual students submit through their associated film departments.  (Due to anticipated high submission interest, one entry per school per month is being encouraged at this time.)

"Amateur filmmakers who submit to NJDocs must be registered students at a New Jersey state college or university.  There is no deadline for film submissions as selection will be continued on a rolling basis. NJTV is looking for films 30-60 minutes in length that are high quality, fully produced, in final form, with all rights and clearances intact."
