In October 2012, a New York City police officer was arrested for planning to abduct, rape, cook and eat a woman. The lawyer who accused officer Gilberto Valle, also said that he had enlisted others in this plot through internet sexual fantasy websites. According to USA Today article written January 5, 2013, a second man has now been arrested in this conspiracy.
Michael Vanhise, a 22 year old auto-mechanic from Trenton, NJ is accused to offering to pay the officer $5,000 to kidnap and bind a Manhattan woman wherein Vanhise would rape and kill her.
According to the New York Times, Officer Valle. who is currently in prison awaiting trial, e-mailed Mr. Vanhise in February 2012 stating he would drive this woman to Vanhise’s home where she would be raped and murdered: “Just so that you know, she may be knocked out when I get her to you. I would rather not get involved in the rape.”
In a statement following the arrest, federal authorities stated that neither Vanhise nor Valle were “able to act out the twisted conspiracies described in the complaint in real life.”
Vanhise’s lawyer, Alice Fontier told reporters her client had been fully cooperating with the F.B.I. for several months and was surprised at the arrest.
Preet Bharara, US attorney in Manhattan, hinted at the fact that more arrests may follow in this bizarre case.
