Police have been dispatched to scene of a NJ mall shooting at the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. The shooter opened fire near the Nordstrom department store on the second level of the NJ mall just after 9 p.m. on Monday, according to a report from the Huffington Post today.
CNN states that there have been no reports of injuries in NJ mall shooting as of yet. Authorities say that at least eight shots were fired. At least one gunman is said to have fired shots at mall security cameras, state police said.
A witness to the NJ mall shooting, Eddie Kahmann, who works inside the mall, told CNN that the scene was very chaotic
"There was just people running like crazy, so I quickly just closed my doors, ran to the back, turned off all the lights, music and everything, just to stay hidden," Kahmann said.
Kimberly Recchia, another witness of the NJ mall shooting told CBS New York:
“A man came down the aisle and he was firing gunshots with a rifle,” she said. “First I heard it, then I saw him coming down the aisle, and then I saw people screaming, and then I just ran inside the back room.”
NJ mall shooting witness Joseph Elfar said: “I was at the mall, and I saw a bunch of people running a bunch of people yelling, ‘There’s a shooting! There’s a shooting!” So me and my friend were at the Sprint store, and we start running out. We start running towards the exit, and a lot of people were running out the mall.
Another witness of the NJ Mall shooting, Ally Kozic, said she saw the shooter carrying a large gun inside the NJ Mall, which is one of the largest malls in the surrounding area.
Reportedly, a SWAT team was dispatched to scene of the NJ mall shooting because the shooter was described as being equipped with full body gear and a helmet, as well as an assault rifle.
Approximately 200 police units were at the mall, and police were equipped with flak jackets and assault weapons. As of the time of this report, the NJ mall remains on lockdown.
