New Jersey governor Chris Christie has long been a favorite for the presidential nomination in 2016.
As a Republican governor, he has shown his ability to work well with politicians from other parties. Additionally, Christie earned praise for how he handled the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Sandy last year.
Now, however, Christie is making news for all the wrong reasons, and the possibility for his presidential candidacy is now in question.
Earlier this week, potentially damaging emails surfaced which were allegedly written by members of Christie's staff. The email detailed plans to cause traffic delays in the Fort Lee, New Jersey, area, after the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee refused to endorse Christie's re-election last year.
The lane closures led to several days of gridlock and chaos, with commuters sitting in traffic for hours. The massive delays also resulted in several accidents. One elderly woman actually died of cardiac arrest while stuck in the traffic fiasco.
Following these revelations, Christie has faced widespread criticism. While Christie has denied any knowledge of the lane closures, many are now wondering how much damage this may do to his reputation- and by extension, any presidential ambitions he may have had.
What do you think of this incident? Do you think this will hurt Christie's chances at the presidency?
