NJ celebrates first Clarence Clemons Day today

It's a Big Day for the Big Man, and all those who love him.

It's Jan. 11, the birthday of the late Clarence Clemons, E Street Band sax player. The day has long been an unofficial holiday for E Street Nation honoring the heart and soul Clemons has always been for the band. But this year, it's officially Clarence Clemons Day in New Jersey.

By order of the New Jersey Senate, Jan. 11 each year will honor Clemons statewide. The resolution sponsored by N.J. state Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-11) was passed in late December.

But the birthday celebration planning must have already been in full swing because Asbury Park will be honoring Clemons with a weekend of events, led by a benefit concert featuring Clemons' son, Nick Clemons.

"Celebrating Clarence: The Big Man's Birthday Benefit" tomorrow at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park will raise money to replace instruments, sheet music and other musical equipment that area schools lost to Hurricane Sandy.
