Nitro closer to 'Ten Pounds of Gold'

For the better part of 17 years Phil “Nitro” Monahan has chased his dream becoming the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Currently holding the NWA National Heavyweight Championship Nitro, as most know him in the business, is one step closer to realizing that dream

Nitro has wrestled in every major promotion in the United States as well as made appearances in Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Guam, Alaska and other promotions perfecting his craft and becoming one of the most recognizable and feared competitors in the business.

“The National title has always been considered the stepping stone to the World Heavyweight Championship and I am going to be patient,” Nitro said. “When my time comes you can believe I will make the most of it and there will be violence, pain and a new champion. Rob Conway will never know what hit him when we face off.”

Currently Nitro is being challenged by former NWA Eastern States Heavyweight Champion Lou Marconi who wants the National title himself in order to put himself in a position to wrestling Conway for the World Championship.

At a recent NWA World-Wide Wrestling event Nitro distracted Marconi during a cage match with The Human Predator leading Predator to pull out the victory and become the new champion, something Marconi will not soon forget.

“Nitro you stuck you nose into my business, you cost me my title so now I am coming after yours and I will take it from you, beat you with it and make you wish you had never stepped foot in the NWA,” Marconi fumed.

Monahan has been feuding with former WWE/WCW star The Barbarian for almost 10 years with many of their matches as brutal as they come.

Demolition Ax had included Nitro as part of the legendary Demolition tag team as well and the two still tag on occasion. Nitro is as formidable an opponent with a tag team partner as he is a singles competitor often with longtime friend Malice by his side.

As Nitro begins to expand his horizons as the NWA National Heavyweight Champion his main promotion is NWA Championship International Wrestling based in Toledo, OH where the group has seen appearances by World Heavyweight Champion Rob Conway, The Lords of K.A.O.S. Damien Wayne and Lance Erikson as well as former WWE/ECW star Shane Douglas.

NWA CIW has an invaluable advisor in Dr. Jerry Graham Jr. who has worked almost every star from the 70s-90s as part of Dick the Bruiser’s WWA promotion based in Indianapolis.

“Nitro has what it takes to go far in this business,” Graham said. “He has paid his dues and it is about time good things start to happen for him. The National title is just the first step for him, there is a lot more to come.”

Nitro and Malice, who are often known as Legion have formed a frightening combination with the Lords of K.A.O.S. and are collectively calling themselves the Legion of K.A.O.S. which would include four of the most violent and successful workers in wrestling.

“Rob Conway is on my radar and one of these days that NWA World Heavyweight Championship will be mine. The National title is just the beginning, there is so much more to come and so much more to accomplish,” Nitro said. “I will not stop, I will not rest until I have that Ten Pounds of Gold around my waist. Until then, anyone who steps in the ring with me had better know they will get hurt, especially you Lou Marconi. I know they used to call you ‘Beefstew’ but when I am finished with you, they will call you ‘mince meat.’”

Since becoming the NWA National Heavyweight Champion Nitro has had his busiest schedule and will be appearing on a number of NWA branded shows. Be sure to look for Nitro coming to a town near you and until then be sure to watch the NWA CIW television show.
