The 2014 NIT live stream and TV coverage for tonight's championship game between the SMU Mustangs and Minnesota Golden Gophers is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. EST. This match-up should be a great one as both of these teams can argue that they were good enough to make the field of 68 for the NCAA Tournament. However, right now they are both just focusing on tonight's big NCAA live streaming action as a NIT title is at stake.
According to Bleacher Report on April 3, these two teams are both hungry for the NIT Championship, especially after getting snubbed on Selection Sunday by the NCAA committee.
SMU head coach knows that winning the NIT Championship isn't just about a title, but it also is a great stepping stone for the program heading into next season. Brown thought his team may have been in trouble vs. Clemson in the semi-final round, but after falling behind 38-26 at the half, SMU rallied in the second half for the 65-59 win.
I'm really proud of my team, Brown said. I think the first half, Clemson did about as well as any team that we played against. They controlled the tempo, they had much more energy than us, they executed great. And we didn't have much to say at halftime, except we had to match their energy and possibly play harder than them. I thought it was the best half we played all year.
Minnesota played in arguably one of the toughest conferences this season in the Big Ten, and now they are proving that they are rising as a basketball program. The Gophers finished 24-13 overall but only 8-10 in the Big Ten. However, being in a conference that includes Ohio State and Elite Eight teams Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin it shows that Minnesota's basketball program is coming around.
Tonight's NIT Championship can be seen on ESPN and streaming live online through WatchESPN starting at 7:00 p.m EST.
The Las Vegas line has SMU -3 with the over/under set at 133.
