Nissan did not have a new full-size pickup truck to enter into the 2013 Texas Truck Rodeo at Knibbe Ranch near San Antonio in October, but they did bring along three very capable vehicles to compete in their respective categories.
At the end of the two days of intense driving on and off-road by Texas Auto Writer Association journalists, Nissan came away with those three category awards as voted by the TAWA media members.
The 2013 Nissan Frontier PRO4X won the award as the Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas, with the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SL 4X4 winning the Full-Size Crossover Utility Vehicle of Texas category and their sporty and fun-to-drive 2013 Nissan JUKE Midnight Edition taking the Compact Crossover Utility Vehicle of Texas honors.
Nissan did not enter their current full-size pickup, the Titan (which is actually a very capable truck) as it is in transition to become a brand new Titan that is projected to be available as either a 2015 or 2016 model year pickup.
Nissan has announced that the new Titan will have a 5.0L Cummins V8 Turbo Diesel power plant available as an option when the Titan is introduced. Doing so, Nissan will be the second manufacturer (following Ram with their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel) to offer a diesel engine.
