Nintendo dropped the price of the Wii U Deluxe from $350 to $300 on Sept. 20 along with a limited edition bundle featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. This combination led to a 200 percent increase in sales of the console from August to September according to a press release received from the company.
While Nintendo did not reveal an exact figure, Wii U sales in August are thought to be around 30,000. That would make the September figure around 90,000. Not enough to surpass the PS3 and Xbox 360 but a positive sign heading into the holidays with Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Super Mario 3D World on the horizon.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS is the best selling video game system yet again for the fifth consecutive month. The release of Pokemon X and Y this past weekend combined with the Nintendo 2DS suggests that trend will likely continue.
