Despite the significant drop in sales, the Nintendo Wii is still the most popular video game system on the market by a wide margin in 2009. You can expect it to once again dominate the busy shopping season. Here is the holiday gift guide for products related to the Nintendo Wii.
Hardware
Nintendo finally dropped the price of the Wii recently after nearly three years. At $199.99 (with Wii Sports packed in), this holiday season may be the best time yet to pick up the popular system.
Accessories
WiiMotion Plus
Nintendo further enhanced the motion capabilities of the Wii Remote earlier in 2009 with the release of the WiiMotion Plus add-on. You can purchase this essential accessory as a standalone product or a bundle with Wii Sports Resort.
Nintendo/Wii Points Card
The Nintendo Wii contains much more than retail disc titles. In fact, some of the best games on the system can only be found on the Virtual Console and WiiWare sections of the Wii Shop Channel. To buy these downloadable titles, you need either Wii Points or Nintendo Points, which can be bought as redeemable codes at retailers.
SD and SDHC Card
The Nintendo Wii’s 512 MB internal flash memory can fill up quickly if you plan on downloading a lot of content. Fortunately, Nintendo added the ability to launch downloadable games straight from a SD/SDHC Card in early 2009 via the 4.0 System Menu update. The Nintendo Wii supports up to 32 GB for these cards.
Games
Metroid Prime Trilogy
You get three of the best games in recent years (Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption) in one incredible package with Metroid Prime Trilogy.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
The timeless 2D Mario gameplay returns to Nintendo Wii in all its glory with creative levels, new power-ups and insanely fun multiplayer support for up to four players.
Punch-Out!!
The classic boxing series returns after 15 long years. You can expect the same addicting and intense fights in addition to some of the best graphics on the system.
