With the countdown to "Super Smash Bros." for the 3DS down to the final four weeks, Nintendo has decided to make this last month special. Nintendo announced today, Sept 4, that it would be discounting games that star any of "Super Smash Bros." fighters.

The first collection of games have already been discounted and include:

  • "New Super Mario Bros. U" (Wii U) for $39.99 (regularly $59.99)
  • "Punch-Out" (3DS) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Punch-Out" (Wii U) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Super Mario 3D Land" (3DS) for $19.99 (regularly $29.99)
  • "Super Mario Bros. 2" (3DS) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Super Mario Bros. 2" (Wii U) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Super Mario Bros. 3" (3DS) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Super Mario Bros. 3" (Wii U) for $3.49 (regularly $4.99)
  • "Yoshi's New Island" (3DS) for $29.99 (regularly $39.99)

Though there are no specifics as to which games are going to see discounts in the coming three weeks, Nintendo was kind enough to release a list showing when each character would be featured. Week 2 is slated to include fighters such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Ike, Zelda, Toon Link, Pit, and Mega Man. The third week will put Charizard, Mii Fighters, Wii Fit Trainer, Samus, and Zero Suit Samus in the spotlight while the fourth and final week showcases Kirby, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Fox, and the "Animal Crossing" Villager. The listing will reset every Thursday at 9 a.m. PST.

The idea is clever, but that's quite a lot of games to squeeze in before "Super Smash Bros." launches on Oct 3. The Wii U console version of Nintendo's classic brawler is slated to land during the 2014 holiday season.
