Nintendo is creating an animated Pikmin series

The Pikmin series is nothing short of genius and is one of Nintendo's newest intellectual properties. 2 of the games in the series were both released for the Gamecube and with "Pikmin 3" coming out for the Wii U before the end of 2013, the game could either complete the trilogy or start a completely new story. On March 11, it seems that Nintendo is working on a cartoon series for the Pikmin franchise.

Nintendo isn't new to the cartoon business. In the past, they had a short-lived Mario cartoon series. Also, the Pokemon anime series has been around for 16 years. With a new Pikmin series, it's unknown what the story line will be about, but it's possible that it could either revolve around the life of one Pikmin or even feature Captain Olimar's family.

Shigeru Miyamoto, one of Nintendo's most treasured game designers, created the Pikmin series and is overseeing the animated series. Also, it's important to note that when the word "cartoon" is brought up, this means a CGI series. It seems that after working on Pikmin 3 for such a long time, he wants to bring the franchise even further.

Miyamoto simply wants to have fun with the series and show gamers a whole different side to Pikmin. He wants to create entertaining scenarios which include some comedy and heartfelt moments. This was only possible with the Pokemon series at the time, but since Miyamoto would like to bring more of his characters to life via CGI films, it seems that Nintendo won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

The series is expected to be available as downloadable episodes via the Wii U and 3DS eShop. Also, it's important to note that this is simply a Pikmin side project and there is a major possibility of a "Pikmin 4" in the next few years. The animated series can be expected before the end of this year. With CGI shorts coming to the Wii U and 3DS systems, it's easy to assume that Nintendo's long-term entertainment value is coming along very well.
