Have you turned on your Wii lately? If you are a Wii fitness player/exergamer (or especially if you are), it’s not likely that you have bothered to connect your console to the internet, much less download the free channels that were discontinued as of June 27. Nintendo’s announcement of the “Wii Network Service Partial Discontinuation” goes on to specify the Channels and its services that have been discontinued:
- Everybody Votes
- Check Mii Out
Data Exchange on Wii Connect24 which permanently disables:
- Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board
- Mii exchanges via Mii Channel
- Exchanges of messages or data in some game titles
This is indeed a significant loss to the overall genius design and creativity of the original Wii console (which also no longer boasts Gameboy and DDR connections). The Nintendo Wii continues to be a severely under-appreciated console with its potential barely tapped. Wii fitness players/exergamers are dedicated to changing that by playing, seriously.
