We previously discussed the potential cost of Sony's Playstation Move for the PS3 and now Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime sounds off on Sony's claim that Wii owners will want to upgrade to a PS3 and PS Move. In an interview with IndustryGamers, Fils-Aime doubts that Wii owners will upgrade because of the potential costs involved.
And why would they say that? That's the piece that to me is very interesting. So I'm a consumer and I'm having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that's the case – we look at the software that's being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What's going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle? So [as a consumer] now I'm into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What's going to motivate me to do that?
When pressed on what he thinks of the Move, Fils-Aime says, "One of the things I find very interesting about this industry is that people don't seem to want to look at propositions from the consumer viewpoint. And I think that's very troubling. We're constantly thinking about how the consumer is thinking about the product. How do they approach it? What's in it for them? Why should I as a consumer open my wallet or pocketbook to buy product X?"
Of course, there will be some gamers that upgrade to a PS3 and a Move simply because they have to have the latest and greatest and price is no concern. There will also be those that already own both a PS3 and a Wii who will buy the Playstation Move. However, Fils-Aime is probably correct in that the casual gamers, the "blue ocean", that created the tremendous sales and popularity for the Wii will likely not upgrade to a PS3 solely because of the Playstation Move. These are typically the moms, grandparents and smaller children who picked up the Wii and maybe the WiiFit. These are not in the typical demographic for the PS3 or even the Xbox 360 for that matter. Though both are trying hard to tap into them with the Move and upcoming Project Natal.

I agree with Reggie. I honestly can't see "many" Wii owners buying the PS3 Move. I'm also not a Wii owner (don't really care to be one either --not my sort of thing) so I really don't know. I like the idea of the Move but I have yet to see the appropriate games for it, which I'm sure (I hope) are either announced upon the release of the Move or are, preferably, ready to play at launch. If Sony manages to yet again bring something new out to the public without a huge lineup of 'good' games like the launch of the PS3, people will be very displeased with the product. (I absolutely love the PS3 now, but wasn't a big fan of the games back when the PS3 came out, except a few because of that). Although, much has changed since then. All I use anymore is my PS3 and very rarely my PC or 360!
I agree wholeheartedly. Move is an obvious "mii too!" move by Sony aimed at those casual players that Wii has near saturated at this point. The hardcore crowd has balked at the Move, and most of them won't buy one. And if nobody buys one, then why should game companies spend resources making games for Move? If anything, its going to lead to the porting of dozens of Shovelware titles from the Wii, and thats NOT what PS3 needs right now.
Ok, I admit the tech looks cool, and has big promise. Also, the PS3 has caught its second wind now that the PS3 Slim was released, and the DVD format on the 360 is finally starting to show its age.
IMHO, Sony should have waited till the PS4 and bundle Move 2.0. Otherwise, its going to become the Power Glove or Super Scope of this generation.
Well, I already know maybe half of Wii owners already bought the PS3 (because of certain game they couldn't find on Wii like GTA 4, Bioshock, Fallout 3, and COD: Modern Warfare before it was ported to Wii) before Move was announced. But let's not forget the PS2 and Eyetoy had motion sensing before Nintendo innovate it, so it depend. Some Wii owners may not get Move.
