Despite a report that a Nintendo general manager made known to a German news source that Super Smash Bros. would join Mario Kart 8 in a spring 2014 release, the video game publisher and developer is saying there has been a misquoting, according to a report today from VG 24/7.
The report yesterday from GameSpot pointed to German news site Neckar-Chronik as quoting Nintendo Germany general manager Bernd Fakesch in saying Super Smash Bros. was headed for release this coming spring for the 3DS and Wii U.
However, Nintendo said in a statement today that Fakesch had been misquoted.
“There seems to be some buzz online today about the launch date of Super Smash Bros.,” the Nintendo representative said in the statement. “We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview.”
The Nintendo rep also said the original article had been corrected and that the publisher and developer had no further comment to make at the time.
Mario Kart 8 will indeed still be heading out come this spring, though it’s not certain yet when Super Smash Bros. will drop.
