Today Nintendo announced that the Wii U Deluxe will now be priced at $299.99 Effective Sept 20th. A decrease of $50 dollars from the current price.
In addition the Wii U bundle will include The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD also launching Sept 20.
Per Nintendo the bundle includes a black Deluxe Wii U console; a GamePad controller adorned with gold lettering, a gold Hyrule crest and gold symbols from the game; a download code for the digital version of Hyrule Historia, a book that details the chronology, history and artwork of The Legend of Zelda series; and a code that can be used to download The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD from the Nintendo eShop immediately at no additional cost.
Recently the company posted a 36.4 billion yen (387 million) operating loss, with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata attributing most of the shortfall to poor hardware sales. From April to June the Wii U sold just 160,000 units worldwide for the three-month period: 90,000 in Japan, 60,000 in North America, and 10,000 in Europe. As of June 30, worldwide sales of Wii U hardware stand at 3.61 million.
It stands to reason that the company is further positioning itself to lower inventory and become more profitable and compete with the Sony and Microsoft as they launch new hardware.
It’s a great time to be a gamer!
