Nintendo announced a brand new Kirby game during this morning's Nintendo Direct. This game will be released on the 3DS handheld, and doesn't currently have an official title. Today's reveal trailer also lacked a release window, simply stating that the game will be available some time next year.
Judging by today's trailer, Kirby's latest adventure will find several ways to take advantage of the handheld's 3D affect. A new item has Kirby shifting between the foreground and background planes, much like certain areas in Donkey Kong Country Returns, another 2.5D game. Waddle Dees are also seen driving a train directly into the foreground, and getting slapped by a giant hand knocks Kirby into the 3DS screen.
Several of Kirby's unique abilities will also see a return. A few of the ones shown in the trailer were sword, fighter and freeze. It's too early to know what new abilities may appear, or what type of multiplayer this title could feature. We'll have more news regarding Kirby's 3DS game as it appears.
