While arcades have virtually disappeared, never to be seen again (no, Chuck E. Cheese and the like don't count), Nintendo and Namco Bandai aren't stopping. The two big name publishers are teaming up to develop Mario Kart: Arcade GP DX for Japanese arcades. Due out later this year, the new arcade game will debut in two weeks at the Japan Amusement Expo.
The arcade installment looks like your standard Mario Kart title, which include the franchise's newer concepts such as the glider mechanics - a mechanic that was first introduced in the 7th installment for the 3DS. The game also appears to include some kind of camera system to display the racer's faces. According to translations, Namco has listed a single-player Grand Prix mode, a two player co-op, a "Clone Battle" mode and a multiplayer competitive mode.
Could this iteration of the Mario Kart arcade series (this is the third one) be a sign? Is Namco Bandai also working on Mario Kart for the Wii U? We won't have to wait too long to find out - Mario Kart is due to debut in a playable form at E3 2013.
