Nine lights on the altar burn this night. And on this night we Honor the humanity in us all, and the ability to evolve, actualize, and grow.
This is a time to embrace that part of ourselves that is the eternal student. Growth can be many things, but in this case, perhaps, relevant to this time of Google replacing research and thought our inquiry, it is a good time to take stock of what the Pagan Seeker and Student may be. This is not just in practical matters, but in overall Spirit.
Writing out a list of what it means to know that we do not know everything is a good exercise this night. Understanding that there are more ways than our approach to Truth can be difficult. Let the flame burn this away.
In "In Five Virtues for the Pagan Student", Lee Elizabeth Pike, also known as "The Chaos Witch", gives a meaningful list of what we should be looking for in ourselves and our families on this night. She writes
"Be humble. You are small. Yes, you have a role to play, and you are a piece in a big, pretty cool puzzle. But please, step off, be quiet, and be absorbent. Turn all of your senses on and tune into your surroundings"
This can be the time to figure out how well you are crafting that puzzle piece that is yourself. The virtues she lists are
Are these a part of life in your Journey right now? How so? This is something also of great importance if you are in a coven. Forest Butera writes
"a coven is a group of like-minded people who come together with the understanding that there is strength in numbers and any organization is only as strong as its weakest link"
Are you becoming stronger everyday? Or has something stolen your spark? If you are in a coven or group, does it facilitate your growth or is is limiting you? Meditate on this. Find your Truth. Grow as you are meant, and don't let anyone block your Sun.
The reciprocal bonds and helps experienced in this kind of close group demand that all are ever striving toward the betterment of themselves. Community, and communing with the Sacred in oneself.
Nine is a number for community. What role does your current Path contribute to yours? Look at your altar. Remember the nights that have passed and realize that each light brings you closer to the recognition of your own rebirth.
