Nine Broncos players got the axe Friday, leaving 13 more cuts to come as Denver tries to drop the list to 53 players by 2 p.m. Saturday.
The players cut on Friday: center Kory Lichtensteiger, defensive tackle Carlton Powell, defensive end Matthias Askew, quarterback Ingle Martin, cornerback Rashod Moulton, offensive lineman Clint Oldenburg, linebacker Lee Robinson, wide receiver Nate Swift and running back Marcus Thomas. Lichtensteiger and Powell were 2008 draft picks by the Broncos.
The Broncos also put former University of Colorado offensive lineman Matt McChesney on the reserve-injured list. The two sides are expected to work out an injury settlement, The Denver Post reported. McChesney missed Thursday's final preseason game against Arizona because of a sprained ankle.
Lichtensteiger's exit should mean rookie guard Seth Olsen and interior lineman Russ Hochstein will make the cut today. Both Olsen and Hochstein can play either guard position, allowing Ben Hamilton to play center if starter Casey Wiegmann is injured.
The Post also reported, citing an NFL source, that second-year cornerback Joshua Bell had surgery to repair his meniscus earlier this week after injuring his knee Aug. 30 against Chicago.
