Looks do kill
Nikita is synonymous with the term "female empowerment" with the 1990 French film, 1993's Point of No Return with Bridget Fonda, and USA Network's La Femme Nikita (1997-2001) with Australian actress Peta Wilson from 24 co-creator Joel Surnow.
The premise: a young woman is trained by a secret yet shadowy government agency to become an assassin while striving to maintain her humanity.
A decade later, Nikita comes out of the cold to redefine "girl power" on the CW Network with Maggie Q as the rogue spy out for revenge against Division when they killed the man she loved. Leading the hunt is Michael (Shane West), a fellow Division operative that trained Nikita, trusted her, and possibly loved her ... and may still do, and the feeling becomes mutual to Nikita.
What Michael and Division don't know, though, that Nikita have her own spy inside: Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca), one of their newest recruits. Together, they seek take down Division one mission at a time.
The DVD contains a two-part behind-the-scenes look into the series, interviews with the cast and crew on their characters, audio commentaries, bloopers, and deleted scenes.
Creator and executive producer Craig Silverstein told TV Guide that Nikita is somewhere between a female James Bond and Batman.
However, she is also the female Robin Hood and Jack Bauer: the tragic vigilante with the "bleeding heart for the oppressed", vowing to protect the innocent that are being hunted as penance for her sins: an heroine for the post-9/11 generation.
Nikita returns for season two, now Fridays at 8p on the CW.
