The next generation of the Fuelband was unveiled on Tuesday during a press event in New York as Nike announced the Nike+ Fuelband SE. Featuring newly updated hardware, the Fuelband SE will now be able to better the track the movements of its users and determine what counts as an activity and what was rather innocuous. The result of the new algorithm that Nike has implemented in the updated Fuelband is a better and more accurate measurement of a person's daily activities.
Some of the more subtle improvements that users of last year's Fuelband will notice is the ability to double tap the button to bring up the time along with being more water resistant. Bluetooth 4.0 will be used to better connect to the Nike+ Fuelband app and the improved placement of the circuit board will allow for a more flexible band that feels less fragile.
Among the new features that people will be able to try out are Sessions, which lets people track activity-specific data, and Win The Hour helps people stay motivated on an hourly basis while keeping them on track to their daily goal. Other metrics users can see include new milestones for power users to strive for and Fuel Rate, which tracks down how much Fuel a user is earning per minute.
The Nike+ Fuelband SE is now available for pre-order at Nike's online store for $149. The new Fuelband SE will launch on November 6 in the same US, Canada and UK territories but will also be available for the first time in France, Germany and Japan. The Fuelband will be available in its standard black color but people will be able to choose one of four different color accents such as black on black, volt, crimson red and pink foil. The Nike+ Fuelband app will be updated on November 6th on the Apple app store which will also be the launch date of the new Nike+ Move app, which is designed to be an introduction to Nike Fuel for new users.
