Nike unveiled their new Ordem Football on Monday with a brand new commercial featuring golfer Rory McIlRoy and soccer star Wayne Rooney. The spot is meant to highlight the crossover of golf and soccer and how Nike designed the Ordem Football with the idea of giving users unprecedented handle over their shots, similar to to how top golfers are able to add an element of control to their approach.
The commercial, entitled "Straight Down The Middle", features McIlroy engaging in an exhibition match with Rooney. Little does McIlroy know that instead of facing Rooney head-on at golf, the Manchester United striker will be using the new Nike Ordem Football as his weapon of choice. As they make their way down the 18 holes in the spot, the Ordem Football takes center stage as Rooney is able to contort and bend his shot in ways that most people have probably never seen before. Obviously the distance the ball travels is played up for the sake of the commercial, but fans are able to see just what Nike is talking about when they say that the Ordem Football offers optimal touch (via the new Fuse-Welded panels), unprecedented flight control (via the new aerodynamic NIKE AEROW TRAC grooves) and maximum visibility (via the new Nike RaDaR technology).
According to Nike, the Ordem Football featured in the commercial will be used by in international friendly games and all Nike-sponsored Federations come early 2014. The ball itself will be available at Nike.com on December 5.
