LIVE! The three-day experience was filled with basketball, entertainment, food, giveaways, and much more.
As the largest 3ON3 Basketball Tournament in Southern California, Nike 3ON3 included every kind of “baller” there is: short, tall, college standout, rec league champion, intramural player, gym rat, AAU or YMCA participant. Players of all ages, gender and skill levels played in the tournament.
Individual brackets were divided into appropriate divisions based on a combination of skill, age, gender and height to achieve “level” competition. The tournament featured five main divisions of play: Adult Elite, Adult, High School, Youth, Special Olympics and Wheelchair. The games throughout the five divisions were all just as exciting and entertaining, but in their own way. The tournament was unquestionably a huge success.
One of the most exciting events of the weekend was the Celebrity Basketball Game. For the 2nd consecutive year, the Josh Hutcherson Celebrity Game benefitting Straight But Not Narrow (SBNN) kicked off the Nike Basketball 3ON3 Tournament weekend. This tournament featured many celebrity players including James Lafferty (One Tree Hill), Terrell Owens (Former NFL Star), Columbus Short (Scandal), Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives, Dallas), Cisco Adler (Whitestarr), Bracin Skywalker (Top Track & Field Athletes in the Nation), Manny Streetz (KIIS-FM), plus many more. Though the game was very competitive, the players were having a blast. Smiles and laughter filled the evening air and the audience was entertained. Hutcherson was especially energetic and happy throughout the night making the evening even more fun. To top it all off the event raised $26,500 for Hutcherson’s charity SBNN.
The Nike Slam Dunk Contest was another huge hit this past weekend. This contest featured the most talented and renowned dunkers from across the US. Each dunker showed off their coolest move. Some contestants jumped over standing girls while others spun 360 degrees before slamming the ball into the basketball hoop.
Other festivities included live entertainment and DJs spinning all weekend long, interactive fan fest and vendor village, multiple opportunities to win prizes including tickets to the best concerts and sports events, hotel stays and, of course, Nike gear, and much, much more!
In whole, the tournament featured approximately 100 outdoor basketball courts and over twenty interactive vendors and basketball-themed activities to entertain the thousands of athletes and families that participated and attended. Whether playing or not, the fun-filled weekend consisted of plenty of competition and entertainment for players of all ages as well as the thousands of spectators.
The weekend was a major success and the countdown for next year has begun!
