Nik Beeson leads Thomas baseball to extra inning win over Castleton

BANGOR- Nik Beeson had four hits, including the game winning single in the 12th inning to lead the Thomas college Terriers to a 3-2 victory over Castleton at Winkin sports complex on the campus of Husson university on Saturday afternoon.

Beeson got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning when he ripped a double that scored Anree Benitez. Castleton got on the scoreboard when Macyn Clifford drilled a solo homer during the top of the fourth inning.

Thomas took the lead back when Derek Kane led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple. Kane came in to score when Jake Stilphen hit a sacrifice fly.

Daniel Errico ripped a run scoring double to even the score for Castleton during the top of the fifth inning. The Spartans would threaten in the next two innings, but the scoreboard would be filled with zeroes until the 12th inning.

Benitez led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a single. He was moved to second on a sacrifice from Joe Quinlin. Benitez came around to score on the hit by Beeson.

Kane and Ethan Henderson had two hits each for the Terriers. Kane also pitched five scoreless innings of relief. Rett Adams pitched a scoreless 12th inning to earn the victory.

CJ Pendleton started the game on the mound for Thomas. Pendleton allowed two runs in six innings.

The game was played at Husson due to the field not being ready due to poor field conditions at Thomas.

Devin Hayes pitched a complete game two hitter to lead Castleton to a 9-0 victory over Thomas in game two of the doubleheader.

Thomas and Castleton will finish off their series at Husson on Sunday afternoon.
