San Franciscan fans of geeky comedy coming from people who riff bad movies have a choice January 24: Watch a rerun of the Rifftrax Live screening of “Manos: The Hands of Fate” or watch the cast of Rifftrax live at the Castro Theatre as they host “Night of the Living Shorts IV: Riffizens on Patrol” on opening bight of the 12th annual SF Sketchfest. SF Sketchfest will run from January 24 to February 10.
Given how rare that the Rifftrax crew visits the Bay Area, the choice should be bloody obvious.
At 8:00pm (doors open 7:00pm), Kevin Murphy, Michael J Nelson, and Bill Corbett will work their riffing magic as they ridicule and bad PSA, educational, scientific, and promotional short that people may have had the misfortune to see at some point in their lives. Joining the Rifftrax crew for “Night of the Living Shorts IV” will be fellow guest Riffers including Kevin McDonald from “The Kids in the Hall,” Adam Savage from “Mythbusters,” Kristen Schaal from “30 Rock,” Paul F. Tompkins from “Best Week Ever,” Cole Stratton from “Pop My Culture,” and Janet Varney from “Legend of Korra.” Expect plenty of laughs and bad short films for a mere $30.
Their Rifftrax audio commentaries are astounding to play over popular good and bad movies in need of ridicule, Their live performances as screened through Fathom events allow the members to exude more comedic energy as the live audience laughs alongside them.
