Night of the Living Dead deaths

Yesterday the world of horror lost two individuals from the original "Night of the Living Dead" film.

A veteran of conventions and the very first zombie in George Romero's pioneering classic, Bill Hinzman (also known as the "graveyard zombie" or the "cemetery zombie" to fans) passed away yesterday at the age of 75. He was the very first zombie who appeared in the film, and he'd been battling cancer. Hinzman was also involved in Romero's original "The Crazies," and he directed the straight-to-video film "Flesh Eater." He was a fan favorite at shows and will be missed by many.

Also yesterday, Russ and Gary Streiner's mother, Josephine Streiner passed away at the age of 94. She wasn't an professional actress, but she did get to play a zombie in NOTLD. Fans of the film will recall that it was her character's car that was wrecked while Barbara was trying to escape zombie Hinzman in the graveyard.

"Barbara... they're coming to get you."
