On February 16 at 7:30pm , Charlie Wilson, Keith Sweat and The Whispers will be performing at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. Featuring three top-tier Rhythm and Blues acts, this concert is not one you want to miss. Charlie Wilson, singer, songwriter, and producer, began his career as the lead vocalist for a group known as the Gap Band. This American funk band only recently retired in 2012 after 43 years together and over 30 years of fame. After leaving the Gap Band, however, his career as a solo artist took off. He has been nominated for six Grammy awards, received 2009 soul train icon award, and was a recipient of a BMI Icon Award in 2005. Even more, he was named Billboard magazine’s #1 Adult R&B artist and his song “There goes my Baby” was named the #1 Urban Adult Song for 2009 in Billboard Magazine.
As a solo act, Wilson is famous for pouring himself into his performances and is said to still have energy like he is in his 20s. It is rare to find artists who perform for as long has he has and it is clear that he loves what he does. Every moment of his shows is filled with so much passion.
Keith Sweat, also an R&B/soul singer, songwriter, and producer, will be the second act to take the stage. Sweat, similar to Wilson, start his career as a member of a Harlem band in 1975, however, he left the group after about 10 years. Since then he has been performing as a solo act with relative success. He has been nominated for multiple awards back in the 1990s and won in 1997 Favorite Male R&B/soul artists American music awards. Known for giving off great vibes during his performances and always engaging his audience, Sweat will definitely be a hit on stage.
The final act of the night will be another R&B performance by the dance vocal group The Whispers. Though the group has replaced a few of their original members since their formation in the 60s, the have been entertaining together for a long time and the group has a track record for consistent hit records. In addition, they were inducted into the Vocal group hall of fame in 2003 and were winners of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s prestigious Pioneer Award in 2008. Even more recently, in 2012, the group was inducted in The SoulMusic Hall of Fame at SoulMusic.com. The Whispers are a old time classic band and still plan on touring for as long as possible. Just like Wilson and Sweat, The Whispers lover performing and will put on an amazing show.
