On the north side of Chicago there is a community of artists ranging from theatre to visual to gastronomic. For 11 years the Andersonville Community hosts a weekend to celebrate those artist. This year the Andersonville Arts Weekend kicks of festivities on the evening of October 11th with a “Night of 100 pARTies!”
This night is always one of the busiest nights on Clark Street as the Andersonville Arts Weekend begins. Over 40 Andersonville businesses feature great art, refreshments and entertainment during the “Night of 100 pARTies!” You can find artist receptions at the Andersonville Galleria, Las Manos Gallery, Urban Orchard and many others.
Head to the Unity Lutheran Church as they host an evening with refreshments and performances including Stockyards Theatre Project, Unity Works Dance Project, paintings by Shawna Bowman and Two Pence Theatre Company.
Andersonville has a strong Swedish heritage so be sure to include a visit to the Swedish American Museum. The museum’s weekend event “The Swedish Way,” presents an exhibit of paintings by Swedish artist Michael Soderlundh; authentic Swedish café in the gallery; Clogmaster and Polam O. Pyret trunk shows; meet Kristine Cassart, a photographer from Stockholm and book yourself a special photo session; there are also product demos and sales.
If you’re a fan of “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” there are going to be three showings of the cult classic! Saturday, October 12 join Quest Theatre Ensemble takes you on a pub crawl around the neighborhood, ending with a screening of the film at The Call compete with a costume contest. The pH Comedy Theatre will also help you to do ‘the time warp again’ at 9:30pm on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
Patrons who would like to take home a piece of Andersonville Arts Weekend can commission original works from Betsy Robinson, exhibiting hand-cut silhouettes at the Red Balloon Co., and Ian Sklarsky, exhibiting blind-contour portraits at Room Service.
A tradition at the Andersonville Arts Weekend is a self-guided art walk on Saturday and Sunday.
