Sunday night was a big night for the 'Life Rolls On' foundation as they held their 6th annual 'Night by the Ocean' charity event at the Kodak Theatre. The 'Night by the Ocean' event was a celebrity studded affair with event chairmen Simon Baker, Jeffrey Donovan and Rob Machado. The 'Night by the Ocean' charity event also attracted celebrities supporting the 'Life Rolls On' foundation such as Kiptyn Locke from the 'Bachelorette,' actor Dave Annable, actress Odette Yustman, actor James Caan, and actor Bobby Campo, just to name a few.
This year, 'Life Rolls On' honored Jenna Wolfe and the 'TODAY' show with the 2009 Visionary Award for excellence in portraying positive images of individual with spinal cord injury in the media. Actress Brooke Burns also accepted the first-ever 'Life Rolls On' Inspiration Award for exuding courage, grace and compassion after sustaining a spinal cord injury. Since its inception, the 'Night by the Ocean' black-tie affair has raised more than one million dollars to support quality of life programs for young people affected by spinal cord injurys (SCI), while honoring those who have made extraordinary contributions to the SCI community.
Wolfgang Puck hosted the cocktail hour and reception for the event, and guests were treated to music by celebrity guest DJ Felli Fel and performances by Fiction Family, featuring Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek.
'Life Rolls On' is the story of able-bodied individuals, working in connection with those with spinal cord injury, to motivate each other with the inspirational message of achievement in the face of extreme adversity. 'Life Rolls On' utilizes action sports through their flagship program, They Will Surf Again, which pushes the boundary of possibility for those with spinal cord injury (SCI).
In recent news on what would have been Christopher Reeve's 57th birthday (September 25th), 'Life Rolls On' foundation (LRO) and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation have announced a merger. Effective immediately, the 'Life Rolls On' foundation, based in Los Angeles, will serve as the West Coast headquarters and division of the Reeve Foundation. Both organizations' mission and focus will remain the same. 'Life Rolls On' will continue to produce unique quality of life programs, including its award-winning, adaptive surfing program, They Will Surf Again, as well as education, motivation and awareness initiatives.
"This partnership brings tremendous growth for both organizations," said Jesse Billauer founder of 'Life Rolls On.' "With more than one million people affected by spinal cord injury in the United States, as partners, we can inspire even more people with the message that life after spinal cord injury truly ‘rolls on.'"
