The 1990 thriller “Flatliners” is getting a remake, but the director inspires confidence in what might otherwise by another “WHY!??!” scenario.
Blood Disgusting learned yesterday that Sony Pictures originally hired Ben Ripley (“Source Code”) to write the new film, and now the studio has hired Niels Arden Oplev (the original “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) to helm the picture.
Oplev of course made waves with his Swedish film that received a remake from David Fincher (“Fight Club”), and he has a new film coming out (that looks amazing) called “Dead Man Down” so seeing his name attached to a cult-classic remake actually excites me.
The original starred Kevin Bacon (“Death Sentence”), Julia Roberts (“Hook”), Kiefer Sutherland (“Phone Booth”), and Oliver Platt (“The Three Musketeers”) in a film about medical students who willingly induce clinical death in order to find out if there’s anything on the other side.
I can’t wait to see what he does with this!
