With season finales for Dancing With the Stars and American Idol taking place this week, Nicole Scherzinger and Crystal Bowersox both rose to the top during reality TV’s ratings race and biggest week of the year. Nicole Scherzinger took home the coveted mirror ball trophy after eleven weeks and seventeen dances on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Over at FOX, Crystal Bowersox performed three knockout songs on American Idol. Although a winner will be named tonight, industry insiders are predicting a win for the dreadlocked soulful singer.
She was considered the frontrunner from the get-go, so Nicole Scherzinger answered back by winning it all on Dancing With the Stars. Although there was a small stumble at the end, her freestyle dance was so complicated and fast-paced that voters overlooked it. He may have won the gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics, but Evan Lysacek came in second place after a very respectable season. Coming in third place were Erin Andrews and her “Russian,” Maksim Chrmekovskiy. Of the three finalists, Erin Andrews had the least amount of previous dance experience, so her third place finish was remarkable during a season with so much viable competition. The three finalists all appeared this morning on Good Morning America and seemed pleased with their performance and finish. After grueling weeks of non-stop practice, all said they would miss the camaraderie and competition.

Over on the set of American Idol, Crystal Bowersox all but cinched a win with knockout performances of Me and Bobby McGee, Black Velvet and Up to the Mountain. Lee Dewyze, a dark horse contender, gave Crystal a run for the money towards the end of the competition. However, nerves took over during his final performances of The Boxer and Everybody Hurts. He fared better with U2’s Beautiful Day. Even if Crystal Bowersox is crowned the next American Idol tonight, Dewyze should have a bright future in the music industry. Other second place finishers who went on to post-Idol success include Clay Aiken, Bo Bice, Katherine McPhee, David Archuletta, and of course, Adam Lambert. Tonight’s grand finale of American Idol will feature powerhouse performances from music stars and past contestants, plus a touching farewell tribute to Simon Cowell. Because the show may very well run over it’s two-hour allotment, you’ll want to set your DVR for an extra 30 minutes. The two-hour season finale of American Idol will begin at 8/7c tonight on FOX. Not a "beautiful day," by a long shot. DeWyze can't carry a tune in a bucket... and Crystal? Crushed by the "star-making machinery of the popular song."
She's the singer, and she'll have the career. Runners up on that execrable show are the ones with the talent. America blew it again.
Crystal was robbed!
He's a flash in the pan, she's the star.
Second year in a row where the best singer finishes second. Time to stop watching.
She is a real artist...Lee sounds like the last year's winer..not a winer...
Crystal was always meant to win this! She is a natural artist - it should have been hers tonight! But this will not hold her back - she will make her own path without the Idol title!
